European Court of Human Rights Victory

Starts: June 22 2010 / 2:32 pm

On May 20, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that an absolute bar on voting rights applied to all persons with disabilities placed under partial guardianship violated the European Convention of Human Rights. The Court also invoked the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The case, K.A. v. Hungary, was brought by HPOD Research Associate Jan Fiala, and recognized arguments submitted in an amicus brief by HPOD executive director Professor Michael Stein.
